The North-West Transport Hub is located at the former Waterside Train Station, a Grade B-listed building which served as one of the city’s main stations for a century before closing in 1980.

Works included the refurbishment of the original Grade B listed building, the construction of the waterside train station building to include an active travel centre, the creation of a new Park and Ride Facility and bus turning circle, a Greenway link to the city centre and the demolition of the existing railway station. Works were carried out in 2 phases with completion of phase 1 in October 2019 working in Joint Venture partnership with railway engineers, Rhomberg Sersa. Fit out works included the refurbishment of the original Grade B listed building and fitout inside a new transport hub focusing on equipping and finishing spaces such as passenger lounges, ticketing areas, retail outlets, café, and transit facilities. The key objective was to create a functional, user-friendly environment that caters to the needs of diverse commuters, integrating elements like digital signage, modern seating, and wayfinding systems. Attention to detail and quality in the fitout ensured the transport hub was ready to handle high passenger volumes while providing a smooth, comfortable experience.
