Newtownstewart Mc Kinney were contracted by Murphy Process Engineering to carry out all the reinforced concrete works, architectural block work and main processing building construction and FIT OUT works at the new clean water drinking facility at Butlers , Dry End Road.
The reinforced concrete works were substantial in nature comprising of several large clean water retaining tanks controlled by the all-important new main processing building. To construct NTS have expended more than 40,000-man hours on the project with some 2800 hrs of extensive cranage installing circa 500T of rebar placing over 2200m3 of concrete in 4760m2 of formwork incident free .
Butler WTW is a new clean water/ drinking water processing facility therefore the construction of the tanks were subject to very strict quality assurance checks, procedures and compliances as outlined in CESWI.7th Edition which were strictly monitored. (CESWI =CIVIL ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION FOR THE WATER INDUSTRY)
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE MAIN ELEMENTS
Clean Wash Tank – 20m long x 7.6m wide x 2.5m high with a 500mm deep roof slab giving Southeast Water an 380m3 capacity clean water retaining Tank
GAC – FILTERS – 18.3m long x 7.1m wide x 9.2m high -divided into 5 cells giving Southeast Water an 850m3 capacity clean water filtration facility
Sedimentation Tank – 25.8m long x 9.9m wide x 7.6m high giving Southeast Water a 1850m3 capacity tank.
Contact Tank – 18.1m long x 14m wide x 5.3m high with a 200mm deep precast slab roof with a structural screed topping to totally encapsulate the tank. A specialist waterproof Sikalastic 8800 spray applied membrane was then applied to the roof to ensure no ingress of dirty / contaminated water into the tank rain or otherwise. This tank has a cubic capacity of 1850m3 and is an essential part of the processing plant
The main building is constructed from RC pad foundations with a deep ground floor RC slab all protected by a damp proof membrane. The building is finished to an extremely high standard using Colinwel architectural block on the outer face with a Colinwel paint grade block on the inner leaf all of which are very aesthetically pleasing. (24,000 blocks Main Building).
