Decarb Works is a comprehensive civil and electrical works project designed to prepare and develop the site for new substations and Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) enclosures. The scope of the project spans mobilisation and demobilisation, site clearance, earthworks, paving, drainage, foundation works, and the installation of external furniture and electrical connections.
The works begin with full site preparation, including the clearance of vegetation, debris, and redundant structures. Existing features such as cycle stands, rockeries, and grit bins are carefully removed, stored, and reinstalled for reuse. Groundworks include excavation, backfilling, compaction, and the disposal of surplus material, with sub-bases and surfaces prepared for paving and reinforced concrete slabs.
Specialised foundation works provide reinforced concrete bases and plinths for substations, kiosks, and ASHP units. Paving and surfacing activities focus on laying interlocking block paving, levelling surfaces, and reusing existing materials where suitable. Drainage works deliver new surface water systems, incorporating trenches, pipes, inspection chambers, and manholes, with temporary flows and diversions managed throughout construction.
The project also includes the supply and installation of external elements such as signage, road nameplates, and cycle stands, as well as the relocation and reinstatement of existing features. Electrical works involve the installation of ducts, cable pits, and foundations for connections to substations, LV rooms, and ASHPs, with reinstatement of grass and tarmac surfaces, and close coordination with UK Power Networks.
On completion, Decarb Works will deliver a fully mobilised site with all foundations, paving, drainage, and enclosures built to specification. Street furniture and signage will be in place, existing features reinstated, and all works carried out in a safe, compliant manner. The project handover will include full documentation, such as as-built drawings, test results, and quality records, ensuring transparency and long-term reliability.
